Oaxaca Trip
Thanks for praying for me and the conference. I REALLY needed it. This
"International Bible Institute" in Oaxaca is special because a first-generation
Korean man came here in the early 80s with his family to reach an ethnic
(indian) group called the Mixes (read, mijes). As you can in the picutres later,
they are quiet short in height and sort of dark skinned. From the amazing labor
of love for these people came out this beautiful looking school and the ministry
that ensued. Now his son-in-law, a second generation Korean American pastor, is
operating the school with great dedication and love.
This week-long
conference on hermeneutics ran daily from 6 AM to 7 PM with 2 hours of break for
breakfast and 2 hours break of lunch in between. Boy, it was sure tiring but
ultimately very rewarding colaboring with a fellow missionary (whose dear wife
gave birth to a daugther during the conference!) from the same neck of wood
(California, Korean, Mexico, etc).
The
Picture 1 (above) shows most of the partcipants consisting of the
students of the Bible institute, leaders from the Mixes tribes from the
mountains and local pastors. I think more than 70 or 80 came to take in
at least a good portion of the conference.
The Picture 2 (below) is taken just with the pastors. It looks like two other conferences might be
generated in other areas in Oaxaca as a result of this event because two groups
of pastors approached me about it.
Thanks for praying
PS: Pray
please for my wife's very ill older sister; she will be on her way to be with her
today.
